Villa Ciani in Lugano was the beautiful location that last Friday, October 25th, hosted the press conference to launch the Fashion Innovation Week 2020. The event will last 5 days, from 30 March to 3 April, it’ll be held in Lugano and aims to reach even more people than past two editions: 1200+ participants, 60+ speakers and hundreds of brands leader in the fashion and digital industry.
The focus of the week is on innovation in the FashionTech Industry as a response to the ever-evolving needs of today’s customers: in particular, the structures required to support innovation across the industry. Different to the past, when brands were content to outsource large sections of their online business to others, recent years have seen first the rise of “insourcing”, and today instead, a strong impetus to building partnerships to innovate on a scale beyond the reach of a brand by itself. That’s why Fashion Innovation Week will bring together not just brands, but also technology companies, investors and start-ups: a genuine “ecosystem of innovation” to benefit the industry and the community.
Another initiative announced is the Fashion Innovation Award (Tues, 31st March), where Loomish SA in partnership with Bally will present start-ups working on sustainable technologies to a high-level jury panel, with each start-up pitching solutions to make fashion “greener”.
Speakers who took part in the press conference were many: Marco Borradori, city of Lugano Mayor; Stefano Rizzi, Director of the Economics Division of the Department of Finance and Economics of Canton Ticino; Nicolas Girotto, CEO at Bally; Luca Callegari, Director Enterprise Solutions at Microsoft; Boas Erez, Rector of the Università della Svizzera Italiana; Alessio Ruffini, Managing Director at Accenture Interactive; Emanuele Carpanzano, Director of the Innovative Technologies Department at SUPSI; Jelena Tasic Pizzolato, Head of Strategic Marketing at Loomish; Lorenzo Ambrosini, CEO at Fondazione Agire.
Among other features, what would make this upcoming Fashion Innovation Week stand out from the past editions are the collaborations with local shops, organizations, companies and universities. The model is Milan’s “Fuori Salone”, in which local businesses can expect advantages from hosting their own initiatives in parallel to the main fashion event.
