NetComm Suisse represents Switzerland at the TeComm e-Commerce Conference, Bucharest

On the 26 th and 27 th April 2017, the General Director of NetComm Suisse, Carlo Terreni, traveled to Bucharest, Romania, to participate in the TeComm e-Commerce Conference. Dedicated to e-Commerce in the Eastern European context, the 10 th edition of the annual event focused on thetheme “Sell them your story”, discovering the ingredients to successful digital stories through thetestimony of over 30 industry influencers. The TeComm e-Commerce Conference united over 2000participants and 250 speakers at 280 presentations, workshops and debates.

Romania is a fast-growing economy: its GDP is forecasted to remain strong thanks to fiscal easing and wage increases, while unemployment is slowly decreasing: from 6.9% in 2015 to 5.5% in 2018.This consolidated and growing economic prowess is one of the factors behind the success of Romanian e-Commerce, with annual turnover approaching 2bn Euros as of 2016.

Many Swiss companies are investing in the Country, such as Ringier, but Romania is attracting international investments funds in the e-Commerce sector too: such is the case with,which with the help of has seen a revenue growth from less than 500 thousand Euros in 2014 to more than 5 million Euros in 2016, while for 2017 revenues are forecast to reach 10 million Euros. Some of the most distinctive strengths of Romanian entrepreneurs are their great expertise in ICT, incredible fashion productive capability and low operational costs compared to the European average.

Mr. Terreni took to the stage to give a keynote speech entitled “Digital disruption in fashion and retail - from e-Commerce to new business models”. Given that Switzerland is home to many world-class fashion brands, concentrated particularly in the Ticino Canton, the General Director of NetComm Suisse is in a superb position to offer insights into the evolving trends in digital fashion. Part of his speech focused on the opportunities to invest in the Ticino Fashion Valley as:

  • over 80 international fashion brands located in Ticino such as VF International, Gucci, Michael Kors, Guess, Philipp Plein, etc.
  • moderate taxation
  • economic stability
  • easy access to digital ICT and fashion talents
  • Swiss brands focused on international growth
  • easy access to national and international investments

In line with the NetComm Suisse e-Commerce Association motto Together to grow faster, together to grow stronger, part of the discussion was centered on ways to make good of the huge potential between Switzerland’s thriving e-Commerce scene and its Romanian counterpart. With Swiss companies such as Loomish, who are enabling greater connections between start-ups and venture capital as well as incubators such as the Fashion Digital Lab, providing space and networking opportunities that were unimaginable just a few years ago, there has been no better time for those seeking to enter this incredible market.

The TeComm e-Commerce Conference 2017 was a resounding success, and NetComm Suisse looks forward to attending the next edition.
